PINOCCHIO, an accurate tool for the fast generation of dark matter halo catalogs

Cosmological investigations will require, in the coming years, large and accurate mock galaxy catalogues and a great number of them. I will discuss how the theory of cosmological perturbations can help with their creation as well as with the interpretation of their results in terms of the covariance properties of large-scale structure observables.
