Summary:

In this invited contribution to a special issue on "relativistic effects in cosmology", to appear in Classical and Quantum Gravity, we provide a comprehensive review on numerical N-body methods for simulating cosmic structure formation in the context of general relativity. We also present estimates of the relativistic effects expected in ΛCDM concordance cosmology which we obtain through a post-Newtonian calculation.
