Anisotropic stress as signature of non-standard propagation of gravitational waves

We demonstrate that in those models extending general relativity, where anisotropic stress
appears in the scalar sector of linear perturbations, the propagation of gravitational waves is also modified.

This is a very general relationship and likely can be used to constrain models of modifications of gravity
in a new way.
